Traveling by public transportation

While Newton, Iowa, doesn’t have an extensive public transit network, there are still a few ways for race fans to reach Iowa Speedway via train, bus, or rideshare – especially when planning ahead.

By Train – Amtrak

Amtrak service in Iowa is limited, but the nearest major station is in Ottumwa, IA, about 60 miles southeast of Newton. This station is served by the California Zephyr line, which runs daily between Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area.

From Ottumwa, fans would need to rent a car or arrange a rideshare or taxi to reach the track, around 1 to 1.5 hours by road.

By Bus – Jefferson Lines, Greyhound, FlixBus

Most intercity buses arrive in Des Moines, about 35 miles west of Iowa Speedway. Options include:

  • Jefferson Lines: Offers connections from cities like Minneapolis, Kansas City, and Omaha.
  • Greyhound and FlixBus: Serve Des Moines with routes from Chicago, St. Louis, and more

From Des Moines, fans can rent a car, schedule a shuttle, or use a rideshare app to reach the Speedway – about 40 minutes away.
